Celebrating a Milestone
Dear DecisionPoint Financial friends and clients,
This past quarter has been an especially meaningful one — for many of our clients, for the markets, and for us as a firm. We are excited to share that DecisionPoint Financial recently surpassed $1 billion in assets under management — a milestone that places us among the top 3% of Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) firms nationwide.
It is an accomplishment we are proud of, but more than anything, it is a reflection of you — your trust, your loyalty, and the relationships you have shared with us. From the very beginning, our growth has come because of you. You’ve trusted us with your family’s future. You’ve introduced us to your children, parents, friends, and colleagues. You’ve allowed us to serve the people you love most. That trust means everything to us.
This milestone is significant, but it is not the most important part of our story. What matters most are the people and families we serve, the dreams we help pursue, and the challenges we help navigate together. The individuals we serve and the moments we share with you are what truly matters.
A Brief History
Some of you are new clients, while others have been with us from the very beginning. Just as we’ve watched you learn, grow, and accomplish great things, many of you have watched us do the same. For those who are newer to the DecisionPoint Financial family, we’d like to share a few insights into our history and journey.
The origins of our practice go back to 2008, when I left a large national brokerage firm to pursue a different path. Disenchanted with the pressure to sell products, I launched my own independent practice just months before the Great Recession. In the midst of that recession, during a family barbecue, I gave my father-in-law some investment advice on his 457(b). He then shared that advice around the table at the firehouse and before long I was formally added as a 457(b) provider with our first fire department.
For the first several years, the practice was just me, until growth made it possible to bring others on board. In 2015, I hired CJ Harrison, followed by Matt Daley in 2017. Together, we expanded from $50 million to $150 million in assets under management. Then, in 2018, CJ, Matt, and I took the leap of forming DecisionPoint Financial as an independent, SEC-registered firm, launching with four employees and $200 million under management. The name “DecisionPoint” was chosen to reflect our mission: helping families make confident financial decisions at life’s most important points.
What started as casual advice to a loved one years ago, has since blossomed into finely-tuned and highly-personalized planning and investment services to over 2,300 fire service employees, dispatchers, and city employees across 24 departments. Our commitment and resolve to provide high-quality advice continues to be a motivator for our growth. Thank you for making this possible.
Looking Forward – What This Means for You
Reaching $1 billion is not an endpoint — it is a milestone on the journey, and it feels like just the beginning. Here are just a few of the things we’ve been working on behind the scenes to make your experience better than ever.
1. Enhanced technology and services - We are incredibly excited about the future and what it means for you, our team, and the many families we have yet to meet. To prepare for that future, we continue to reinvest in our systems, processes, technology, and talent.
2. Expanded resources and talent - Attracting and retaining the best individuals in the industry has always been a top priority, and we see it as key to delivering the exceptional experience you deserve.
3. Strength and service for the long-term - At the heart of it all, our mission remains unchanged: to serve you and the people you care about most. As we grow, our goal is to be a trusted resource for your family across generations — helping your children, grandchildren, friends, and colleagues find the same clarity and confidence you have come to expect from us. We work hard to ensure we are equipped to do just that.
Thank you for being such an important part of our story, and for allowing us to be a part of yours. We look forward to serving you for years to come.
Sincerely,
Scott Johnson, CFP®, AIF®
