Scott Johnson has been practicing as a financial planner for over 25 years. He founded DecisionPoint Financial in 2018 with a vision of creating an exceptional, fee-only financial planning firm and assembling the industry’s most talented CFP® Professionals to serve the Firm’s clients.
Scott started his career in the financial services industry in 1993 on Wall Street where he worked for an investment banking firm specializing in asset-backed securitization. In 1999 Scott joined Morgan Stanley as a financial advisor. However, after feeling constantly conflicted over pressure to sell proprietary, high commission products, Scott moved his practice to a Registered Investment Advisor in 2008. This allowed Scott to serve his clients as a legal fiduciary and provide them with conflict-free financial advice.
Scott is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) and a Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor (CPFA) with the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA). Scott has also earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) designation which sets him apart in the industry as an advisor who is legally bound to always act in the best interest of his clients and maintain the highest ethical standards under the law.
Scott earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991 from Brigham Young University where he studied International Relations, Economics, and German. After his undergraduate work, Scott studied Business Administration at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland.
Scott has been an avid runner and cyclist throughout his life – competing in many marathons and Ironman Triathlons. Today he prefers hiking the beautiful trails and mountains of Arizona, traveling the world with his wife Sarah, and spending time with children and grandchildren.
